Following the development of the Core Sound 20 Mark 3 it seemed only fair that there should be an equally capable companion to the Core Sound 17. The CS-17 Mk3 offers the same design features as her bigger sister in a more economical package that can be towed easily by a compact car. A generous solo cruiser or weekend explorer, the 17 Mark 3 is the envy of all weekend adventurers and expedition racers.

Like the larger CS-20 Mark 3, the 17 also features the well known cat ketch rig in addition to these important features:

  • Kick up rudder and weighted centerboard.
  • A raised deck cabin with sliding companionway hatch and hinged foredeck hatch.
  • Main and Mizzen tabernacles for quick, easy and safe rigging. No standing on the foredeck.
  • Water ballast tank for lighter trailering load.
  • Self draining cockpit and spacious cockpit lockers.
  • Optional "cockpit reefing" which allows for reefing the mainsail without leaving the cockpit at all.

The Core Sound 17 Mark 3 is available to builders as a very complete CNC kit. The builder supplies the long side stringer material and timber for the building cradle. CNC cut Solid pine parts for the deck beams, transom stiffeners and hatches area all included. Plywood parts included in the kit are pictured below.
